Pandemic influenza and air transport

The air transport network plays an important role in the worldwide spread of epidemic influenza. At the same time, a pandemic influenza may heavily affect various parts of the worldwide air transport system.
Currently, in the epidemiologic discipline as well as complex network studies, research has been carried out on the role of the worldwide air transport network in the spread of epidemic influenza such as Hong Kong influenza and H1N1 influenza. Yet, this knowledge seem to be only partially know in the air transport sector and policy itself. In addition, the air transport system-wide impacts of pandemic influenza and its economic consequences have received very little attention.

In the thematic file ‘pandemic influenza and air transport’ Airneth collects new reports and studies regarding this topic.
